At the age of 19, Rakia Finley was studying database development and knew she wanted to help the community in some way. So, she started Surge Assembly which began as a digital consulting company for non-profits. Today, in addition to helping non-profits grow, Surge Assembly has extended their services to businesses and has worked with the White House on their ‘Girls in STEM’ initiative.
Rakia attributes her growth to the cohesive cultures of the District’s business and tech communities which have challenged her, taught her how to stand on her own and be decisive. The business environment in Washington, DC has ingrained within her a sense of responsibility, honesty and integrity that has not only developed her skills as a business owner but also as a service provider. Since then, with her husband Marcus, she has founded Fin Digital – a fast emerging tech firm focusing on artificial intelligence and web solutions for businesses. This year, they are determined to provide innovative solutions to industries that have traditionally shied away from technology.
